Lesson #1 Movement Foundations

You'll be surprised by this move to help break apart bad habits, strengthen weak muscles, and improve posture!

Your body is smart. When one area is inflamed or weak, your body finds a work around and builds compensating movements.  These compensating movements may, in turn, put different stresses on other joints or muscles in your body.

Your knee is not just about your knee.  It involves the whole kinetic chain and that refers to all of the interconnected body parts that work together to create movement. Foot - ankle - knee - hip - spine is your lower body kinetic chain and when a thing goes wrong with one part, it can often affect another.

Have you ever noticed that maybe your ankle hurt and then your knee started giving you pains?

Or your knee hurts and then your opposite hip started to hurt?

Those pains may be due to compensating movements and the key is to find the root cause of the pain – which sometimes is not where you think it ought to be!   Movement Foundations is where we begin to outsmart our bodies. We are going to work to break apart compensating actions and hopefully break bad habits.

Movement Foundations: Setting up Success and Breaking Bad Habits

The Healthy Knees Strength book will give you a series of 7 Key Movement Foundations. We will work on breaking apart bad habits and strengthening notoriously weak muscles that, as they get stronger, will help create better body alignment and movement.

In today’s video I share one of the surprising foundations that you often wouldn’t think of as related to your knee.  We will start with your foot!

And in the video I give you a bonus move not even included in the book – it’s a move that I learned recently at the MedFit Conference in California from my friend Leslee Bender as she was demonstrating a variety of moves.
